Details

The council received requests to consider the evidence for the risks of dementia in boxers, footballers and jockeys, motor neurone disease in footballers, and of osteoarthritis of the knee and hip in footballers.

Having reviewed the evidence, the council were unable to recommend changing the list of prescribed diseases for which people can claim Industrial Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit due to any of the above circumstances. However, where osteoarthritis of the hip or knee follows an identifiable accident, this could be considered under the accident provisions of the Industrial Injuries Scheme.
