Details

These rules allow you to construct a clear span bridge across a main river. A clear span bridge is a bridge that has no bed, bank reinforcement or support in the watercourse.

You must also follow these rules:

  • the bridge must not be associated with the public highway
  • you must not change the level of the land at each end
  • you must not change the level of the land surrounding the ramp or steps to the bridge

These rules do not allow the construction of bridges on or within:

  • 8 metres of a flood defence structure
  • 200 metres of another bridge or culvert in the watercourse
  • 100 metres of a non-agricultural building
