Street Works Act codes
Updated 16 February 2018
Street Works Act (SWA) codes are allocated to statutory undertakers and others with a licence to carry out streetworks. An organisation cannot conduct streetworks without being allocated an SWA code.
GeoPlace is responsible for the administration, maintenance, allocation and hosting of the SWA codes on behalf of the DfT.
Any statutory undertaker regulated by OFCOM, OFGEM or OFWAT requiring an SWA code should register with GeoPlace.
All enquiries about the allocation of SWA codes should be directed to GeoPlace at [email protected].
GeoPlace is also responsible for the management and administration of the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) infrastructure which underpins the streetworks notification process.
In addition, GeoPlace carries out the following for DfT:
- administering the process for local authority changes to road classifications
- street works signposting service
- administration of TMA Performance Indicator (TPI) scorecard information – for more information on the scorecards contact [email protected]
All other code lists, historically known as ‘data capture codes’, used to support the EToN process can be found in this technical specification.
