Details

This research aimed to learn lessons from the allocation of additional funding to sub-national transport bodies (STBs) in 2022. This funding was used to support initiatives that aimed to improve the capability and capacity of local authorities (LAs).

This research was completed in 2 phases:

  • phase 1 explored the process of allocating funding, including what worked well and what could be improved in future

  • phase 2 gathered early insights on the perceived impact of 5 specific projects that were selected from a total of 25 funded projects

The research methodology was predominantly qualitative, involving interviews and focus groups with DfT officials and representatives of STBs and LAs.
