Support and advice for first responders: victims of terrorism

First responders, including emergency service workers, affected by a terrorist attack can access a wide range of support.

Support at work

As a first responder, you should have access to support through your employer’s occupational health services or employee assistance programme. To find out more you can talk to your line manager or human resources department.

Support outside work

If you are concerned about your physical or mental health and prefer to get support outside work, you can:

  • contact the NHS psychological therapy service to self-refer in your local area
  • read the NHS trauma leaflet that outlines common reactions and gives simple instructions on how to cope
  • contact your GP

Support for all emergency service staff

Mind

You can call the Mind Blue Light Infoline, which offers confidential, independent, practical support and advice on mental health and wellbeing. This line is only for emergency service staff, volunteers and their families.
