DWP commissioned this research with separated parents to better understand their views, support needs and experiences of agreeing a child maintenance arrangement, their relationships and use of DWP services and other support services.

Contribution to the evidence base

This research complements existing literature, survey and administrative data analyses to help the Department provide effective and efficient support for separated families. DWP publish experimental statistics on separated families

Research value

This is a report providing findings from the survey of separated parents. We want to share what we have learned as it will be of interest to others in central and local government in particular. It will also be valuable to organisations working with, or on behalf of, families and academics who work in this field of study.
