Reporting week 45: 4 November to 10 November

During week 45 there were further seasonally expected increases in syndromic indicators for acute respiratory infections, lower respiratory tract infections and acute bronchiolitis in children aged under 1 and 1 to 4 years. There were further decreases observed in COVID-19-like ED attendances and GP in-hours consultations across all age groups and regions.

During week 45, the GP in-hours COVID-19-like consultation rate continued to decrease across all age groups and regions. There were further increases observed in lower respiratory tract infections and bronchiolitis consultations in children aged under 5 years. There was a small increase in pneumonia consultations in children aged 1 to 4 years.

During week 45, the GP in-hours COVID-19-like consultation rate continued to decrease across all age groups and regions. During week 45 there was a further small increase in GP out-of-hours contacts for acute respiratory infections however activity remained at seasonally expected levels. Contacts for acute pharyngitis increased and were slightly higher than expected for the time of year.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 45 there were further small increases in ED attendances for acute respiratory infections (ARI) in line with seasonal expectations. ARI increases continued to be observed mainly in children aged under 5 years. There was also a further overall increase in ‘acute bronchiolitis or bronchitis’ attendances, particularly in children aged under 5 years, in line with expected seasonal trends. COVID-19-like attendances continued to decrease during week 45 across all age groups and regions.

During week 45, ambulance calls for difficulty breathing were stable and similar to expected levels.
