These documents provide an overview of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project and why it is needed. They also set out the latest assessment of the costs and benefits.

The Tunnel is the 15 mile sewage tunnel being built to reduce the levels of untreated sewage that currently overflow into the tidal River Thames in central London.

In a Written Ministerial Statement to Parliament on 7 September 2015 the government confirmed its support for the Thames Tideway Tunnel. It has also signed a series of government support package contracts with Bazalgette Tunnel Limited, the new company that will finance, build, own and operate the Tunnel.

These two documents have been updated from those published in 2011. They provide the latest costs and benefits of the Tunnel, based on updated benefits research. We have also published the following research reports:
