Details

2010 academic study examining the potential economic benefits of an EU-Canada trade agreement on the UK economy, and the impact of different scenarios for removing barriers to trade.

This study was carried out around the time EU-Canada negotiations started and was used to inform Parliament and the public.

It uses Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling to assess the impacts of an EU-Canada trade agreement across business sectors and consumers, and captures the overall net impact on the economy

The study was commissioned by the Department for International Trade (DIT) predecessors. It was carried out by Joseph Francois and Miriam Manchin of the Institute for International and Development Economics (IIDE).

We are publishing it to provide access to information that was used publicly by the government prior to the availability of the 2018 report ‘Impact of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement on the UK’. The 2018 report informed the CETA impact assessment.
