Details

The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) review was announced in May 2012 following the Red Tape Challenge spotlight on equalities. The review was launched to examine whether the PSED is operating as intended.

The Duty came into force across Great Britain on 5 April 2011. It means that public bodies and services, including government departments and local councils, have to consider all individuals when carrying out their day-to-day work – in shaping policy, in delivering services and in relation to their own employees.

The review was carried out by an independent steering group, chaired by Rob Hayward OBE.

Also published is NatCen qualitative research which informed the review. Other supporting evidence to the review will appear on this page shortly.
