The National Archives is a government department and executive agency of the Ministry of Justice. As the official archives of the UK government, it preserves and protects one of the most important collections in the world, holding public records going back almost 1,000 years. It also has an important current information role of publishing all UK legislation and official publications, and actively promotes public access to, and re-use of, that information.

The National Archives provide research facilities and expert advice for the historical community, government departments, parliaments and assemblies, the wider public sector and other archives.

This paper was laid before Parliament in response to a legislative requirement or as a Return to an Address and was ordered to be printed by the House of Commons.
