This opinion covers the impact assessment for The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment) Regulations 2024, laid in draft before Parliament on 15 April. The proposal is to extend Conformité Européenne (CE) marking recognition indefinitely in Great Britian. This allows businesses to either use CE or the new UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) markers when placing goods on the GB market.

Overall, the Department has provided a reasonable level of assessment for the proposal. The Department argues against mitigation and exemption for small and micro businesses because the proposal will benefit all businesses regardless of size.
