The Secretary of State for International Trade asked the RPC to provide independent scrutiny of the Government’s impact assessments of international free trade agreements. As with our opinions on regulatory proposals, we offer commentary on the quality and robustness of the evidence and impact; and opine on whether the final stage impact assessments are fit for purpose to inform parliamentary review.

The RPC considers the final impact assessment of the UK-New Zealand free trade agreement to be fit for purpose. Our independent scrutiny role is an important part of the Government review process, and we look forward to assessing future free trade agreements.
