Details

The UK plan for shipments of waste implements the long-standing UK policy of self-sufficiency in the disposal of waste. It does this by strictly limiting when waste can be shipped to or from the UK for disposal.

In January 2021, Defra consulted on various amendments to the UK plan. As a result, Defra has amended the plan to reflect departure from the EU, certain policy changes and minor technical amendments.

This plan came into effect on 9 August 2007. Defra amended it in May 2012 and has now amended it again with effect from 16 September 2021.
