This call for evidence was published on 11 March 2020. It was due to close on 3 June 2020. We are grateful for the responses we have already received. The government recognises that many sectors with an interest in this policy are affected by COVID-19. We want to give all stakeholders time to submit their views so we have extended the call for evidence. The closing date is now 3 September 2020. However, we encourage early responses from stakeholders where possible to support our ongoing consideration of this policy.
In July 2019, the Government committed to publishing a call for evidence seeking views on moving towards a more dynamic system which recognises smaller differences in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
This call for evidence seeks views on how the Government can use VED to further encourage the uptake of zero and ultra-low emission cars, and reduce overall emissions from road transport, to both help meet our legally binding climate change targets and improve air quality. It also seeks views on the VED treatment of motorcycles.
