Details
On 11 May 2018 Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, now known as Dorset Council, made a formal application to the Marine management Organisation (MMO) under section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for the Weymouth Harbour Revision Order 2021 (“the Order”).
The Order consolidates and modernises local statutory harbour legislation and confers further powers on the council. In particular, the Order confers powers on the Council to give general directions to vessels using Weymouth Harbour, together with powers by the harbour master appointed by the council to give special directions. Details of these powers can be viewed in the Order and the rationale behind the powers can be viewed in the accompanying statement in support.
The MMO approved the making of the Order on 14 January 2021, details of the decision-making process can be viewed in the Weymouth Harbour Revision Order 2021 decision document. The Order will be laid before parliament on 21 January 2021 and will come into force on 17 February 2021.
