Details

The government introduced the Youth Contract in April 2012 to improve the employability prospects for Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants aged under 25.

Wage incentives are an important part of the Youth Contract. A wage incentive of up to £2,275 is avaiable to employers recruiting a young person who has been claiming JSA for over 6 months or is on the Work Programme

This is one of series of research reports which aims to provide an independent assessment of the implementation and impact of the Youth Contract policies.

The report provides feedback from a survey of employers who have received a wage incentive payment alongside qualitative research with Jobcentre Plus staff. Interviews were carried out in summer 2013. This report complements an early evaluation of the wage incentive published in February 2013.
