This page lists ad-hoc statistics released during the period January - March. These are additional analyses not included in any of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s standard publications.
Responsibility for policy areas including Digital and Tech Policy, Cyber Security, Data, and Digital Infrastructure now (since February 2023) sit with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. However, additional analyses for these sectors are also currently included here.

February 2023 - DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates: Total Employment, January to December, 2011 - 2021.
This is an ad-hoc release that provides an estimate of total employment (number of filled jobs) in the DCMS Sectors for each calendar year from 2011 to 2021. The estimates provide the overall level of employment, and breakdowns by the following characteristics:
- Employment type (employed or self-employed)
- Nationality
- Region
- Sex
- Ethnicity
- Age group
- Highest level of education
- Work pattern (full time or part time)
- Socio economic group (Current Occupation)
- Disability status
These employment statistics were produced to meet user demand for total DCMS Sector estimates without the Digital Sector and Telecoms included, as responsibility for these policy areas now sit with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
The DCMS Sector total reported here includes Civil Society, Creative industries, Cultural sector, Sport and - where applicable - Tourism. Due to this specification, users should not attempt to make comparisons to previously published DCMS totals.
March 2023 - Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022: Micro and small businesses in the North West.
This is an ad-hoc release that provides figures among micro and small businesses in the North West of England, using the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022 (CSBS 2022). This is an abridged set of specific findings from the CSBS 2022, a telephone-based quantitative and qualitative study of UK businesses, charities and educational institutions to find out how they approach cyber security and gain insight into the cyber security issues they face.
March 2023 - DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates 2022: Business Demographics
This is an ad-hoc release that provides an estimate of the number of businesses in the DCMS Sectors for each calendar year from 2019 to 2022. The estimates provide a breakdown of size, by turnover band and employment band, and location, by regional distribution of business sites.
These Business Demographics statistics were produced to provide DCMS Sector estimates separate from the Digital Sector and Telecoms estimates, as responsibility for these policy areas now sits with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
The DCMS Sector total reported here includes Creative Industries, Cultural Sector, Sport and Tourism Industries. Estimates are not available for the Civil Society sector, because they are not identifiable in the data source used for this release. Due to these specifications, users should not attempt to make comparisons to previously published DCMS totals.
This release was updated on 29th March 2023, having originally been published on 27th March 2023, to apply a correction. More information is provided in the tables. In addition, the figures for individual sectors are also now included for ease of access, but are identical to the figures published in December 2022.
March 2023 - Digital Sector Economic Estimates 2022: Business Demographics
This release provides an estimate of the number of businesses in the Digital Sector for each calendar year from 2019 to 2022. The estimates provide a breakdown of size, by turnover band and employment band, and location, by regional distribution of business sites.
These figures are identical to those published in December 2022, as part of the DCMS Sectors Business Demographics publication. They are included in a separate table on this page for ease of access.
Users should note that the Telecoms sector sits wholly within the Digital sector.

DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates 2022: Business Demographics has been changed to update one All DCMS (excl Civil Society) figure in Table 2, one in Table 3a and all the All DCMS (excl Civil Society) figures in Table 5.

An ad hoc table update to our business demographics 2022 publication, providing separate data for DCMS and the Digital Sector. This follows changes in February 2023, moving the Digital Sector remit to DSIT.
