Published 12 November 2019
Last updated 18 June 2020 + show all updates
  1. Removed ‘adverse sanction decisions’ statistics for Universal Credit full service from the PDF publication and from Table 1.1 in the data tables. These have been removed because the methodology used to calculate these statistics was undercounting across the whole time-series. Updated statistics on UC full service adverse sanction decisions are available in the June 2020 release of benefit sanctions statistics, where the statistics have been calculated using an improved methodology.

  2. Removed ‘all sanction decisions’ statistics for Universal Credit full service from the PDF publication and from Table 1.1 in the data tables. These have been removed because the published statistics were missing some data as a result of how the information is recorded.

  3. Added note about corrected figures to table 4.1 'Individuals on Jobseeker's Allowance receiving repeat adverse sanction decisions in the last year'.

  4. Updated table 4.1 'Individuals on JSA receiving repeat adverse sanction decisions in the last year' with corrected figures. This does not change the overall trends in the data.

  5. Revised benefit sanctions data to July 2019. Note added to Table 4.1 to advise that DWP statisticians have identified a small shortfall in the number of individuals with a repeat sanction from August 2018 – July 2019. While this will not change the overall trends in the data, work to correct the issue and produce the correct figures has commenced and the information is expected to be revised by Wednesday 18 December 2019.
