Local child poverty proxy measure

An update of official statistics on the proportion of children living in out-of-work benefit households for each local authority in England, produced by the Child Poverty Unit, were released on 8 November 2012.

These figures show, for each local authority in England, the number of children living in households where at least one parent or guardian claimed one or more of the following out-of-work benefits: Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit/Severe Disablement Allowance, or Pension Credit at 31 May in 2011, divided by the total number of children living in the local authority according to the 2011 mid-year population estimates reported by the ONS.

Previous editions of the Local child poverty measure can be found on the Child Poverty data page on the Department for Education’s website.
