Details

A technical issue resulted in the PDF release being unavailable for a short while on 25 June 2020. The issue has now been resolved.

The content and the processes used for gathering the Incident Statistics set of data (compulsory basic training and direct access scheme) are currently under review, therefore there will be no update of this data for the foreseeable future. Any freedom of information requests concerning this data set should be sent to: [email protected].

Statistics on the number and pass rates of driving and riding practical tests conducted in Great Britain for the period April 2019 to March 2020, and also statistics on driving instructors.

During April 2019 to March 2020, there were:

  • 1,865,740 car theory tests conducted
  • 1,599,566 car practical tests conducted

Compared with April 2018 to March 2019, this was:

  • an increase of 4.4% for car theory tests
  • a decrease of 3.9% for car practical tests

The pass rate in the period April 2019 to March 2020 was:

  • 47.1% for car theory tests
  • 45.9% for car practical tests
