The latest England dwelling stock estimates statistics produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government were released on Thursday 25 April 2013.

The latest statistics report on dwelling stock in England as at 31 March 2012.

Key points from the latest release are:

  • there were an estimated 23.1 million dwellings in England as at 31 March 2012, an increase of 0.59% on the previous year
  • at March 2011 there were 19.0 million private dwellings (owner occupied plus private rented tenures) and 4.0 million social rented (Private Registered Providers plus local authority tenures)
  • between March 2011 and March 2012 the social rented stock increased by 12,000 dwellings and the private stock increased by 113,000 dwellings
