This statistical report presents the Forestry Commission’s 10 key performance indicators (KPIs), which align with the vision and goals in Thriving for the Future: Forestry Commission Strategy 2023-2028.
This report provides interim updates for the first half of 2024-25 on three headline indicators with mid-year data, along with updates for other annually reported indicators where available. One indicator is new and currently being developed.

The main findings for the indicators updated to 30 September 2024 are:

1,324 hectares of new planting of woodland in England was reported in the first six months of 2024-25, together with 24,000 trees outside woodland (equivalent to an area of approximately 22 hectares). Total new creation of woodland and planting of trees in England in the first half of 2024-25 was 1,345 hectares (approximately 2,207,000 trees) (provisional statistics)

57% of woodland is sustainably managed in England at 30 September 2024. The figure is 49% for woodland other than that in the nation’s forests managed by Forestry England. Some 99.82% of known tree felling in England was carried out with Forestry Commission approval in the year to 30 September 2024

the monthly average percentage of adults in England who visited a forest or woodland was 32% in 2023-24. The most recent statistics for 2022 show the Gross Value Added of the forestry sector for the economy was £436 million in England
