The HBAI report presents information on living standards in the United Kingdom year-on-year from 1994/1995 to 2016/2017.

These data tables provide greater detail about the income of pensioners, especially those in low income. They include the following information.

This shows how many and what percentage of pensioners are in low income households, and is this proportion rising or falling over time?

Detailed breakdowns

This shows what percentages of pensioners are in low income by various characteristics, what percentage of low-income groups have these characteristics, and how are these different groups spread across the income distribution?

The characteristics looked at include analysis by:

  • economic status
  • age
  • family type
  • gender
  • marital status
  • disability and receipt of benefits
  • tenure
  • ethnicity
  • pensions receipt
  • state support receipt
  • savings and investments
  • region and country

They also look at percentages of pensioners in material deprivation.

Time series

This shows how the rates of low income of pensioners in different groups have changed over time. This includes information on age and gender, tenure, region and disability.

Charts

This shows the distribution of household incomes for pensioners compared to all individuals.
