Key findings
This month we are publishing a methodology report based on an original analysis published in December 2014 for the Langley House Trust, to investigate the incorporation of Offender Assessment data (OASys) into the Justice Data Lab (JDL) process as a test case and the potential impact on results. Incorporating OASys data into the JDL process helps to control for the complex needs of offenders to enable organisations to better assess the impact of their intervention.
The original result indicated that the programme had a statistically significant effect on the 1 year re-offending rate. The one year re-offending rates with OASys data incorporated are broadly similar and consistent with the original result, with minor differences most likely due to small changes in the matched treatment groups.
Update on the Justice Data Lab service
The methodology report we are publishing has been peer-reviewed by colleagues within the Ministry of Justice (MOJ )and National Offender Management Service. Following this publication, JDL will incorporate OASys information in suitable requests.
The bulletin is produced and handled by the Ministry’s analytical professionals and production staff. Pre-release access of up to 24 hours is granted to the following persons: MOJ Secretary of State, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State - Minister for Prisons, Probation and Rehabilitation, Minister of State for Civil Justice (Lords Minister), Permanent Secretary, Director General of Strategy and Change, relevant Policy Advisers for reducing re-offending and rehabilitation policy, and relevant special advisors, press officers, and private secretaries.
The report is released by MOJ and produced in accordance with arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
