Details

This bulletin presents key statistics describing the trends in cautioning and sentencing, probation supervision and the prison population for possession of a knife or offensive weapon in England and Wales. This bulletin does not cover all knife crimes (offences involving a knife) as published by the Office for National Statistics.

The information presented combines both offences of possession of an article with a blade or point and offences of possession of an offensive weapon. Also included in this bulletin are statistics on the recently introduced offences of aggravated possession of a knife or offensive weapon.

The bulletin is produced and handled by the Ministry of Justice’s (MOJ) analytical professionals and production staff. Pre-release access of up to 24 hours is granted to the following persons:
