Details

These statistics published on 8 October 2014 have superseded those published on 30 October 2012. Some figures have been revised in table 7 and annexes D, E1 and E2. The revisions do not change any key points from the original release.

Capital expenditure by local authorities in England has fallen to £20.0 billion in 2011 to 2012, a year-on-year decrease of 13%, due mainly to a fall in new construction and conversion, and lower grants, loans and other financial assistance.

Capital expenditure rose steadily from £19.8 billion in 2008 to 2009 to £23.1 billion in 2010 to 2011, but has fallen back in 2011 to 2012 to £20.0 billion.

Capital receipts, excluding housing revenue account self-financing determination and premium, rose to £2.0 billion in 2011 to 2012, a year-on-year increase of nearly 34%.
