Documents
Details
This bulletin provides figures on the composition and scope of the department’s expenditure, information on the impact of defence spending on the wider economy, and compares the MOD’s spending to that of other departments and other countries.
Revisions
A scheduled revision of 2023’s Trade, Industry and Contracts bulletin was made in February 2024. This provided an update on the latest UK Defence and Security Export statistics which were unavailable at the time of initial publication.
In the same revision, the competition and SME status of newly placed contracts in 2022/23 were also reassessed. This update addressed issues on the late reporting of contracts and uplifted the total value of all new contracts placed in-year by 3%.
Section removal
In the 2023 publication, the Defence Exports sub-section on Top Defence Exporters has been removed. The underlying data published by the Department for Business and Trade no longer provides comparable data between UK exports and that of the rest of the world, and as such cannot be used to draw conclusions about the UK’s ranking among other exporters.
