Highlights

  • April 2021 saw an overall increase in quantity of landings (tonnes) compared to April 2019 and 2020, up 32 per cent and 92 per cent respectively. The value landed (£000’s) decreased compared to 2019 (down 44 per cent) but increased compared to 2020 (up 54 per cent).
  • The cumulative landings from January to April 2021 showed an increase from the same period in 2019 and 2020 (8 per cent and 9.5 per cent respectively) and also indicates signs of recovery from lower than expected activity earlier this year.
  • The changes in value are disproportionate to the observed increases in quantity landed. This is likely driven by landings in 2021 composing mostly of pelagic species which usually fetch a lower price when sold. Increased pelagic landings are likely predominantly influenced by increased Mackerel TACs since EU Exit.
