Details

  • The quantity of landings (tonnes) decreased in August 2021 when compared to August 2019 and 2020 down 9 per cent and less than 1 per cent respectively. The value landed (£000’s) decreased compared to 2019 (down 13 per cent) however, there was a 13 per cent increase when compared to August 2020.

  • The cumulative landings from January to August 2021 showed a decrease of 10 per cent from the same period in 2019 but was up 14 per cent compared to 2020.

  • The changes in value are disproportionate to the observed increases in quantity landed. This is likely driven by higher landings of shellfish and demersal species in August 2021 which usually fetch a higher price. Pelagic landings were also higher in August 2021 than in previous months driven by increased uptake of herring – a key pelagic species – as this species comes into season.
