Details

  • The total quantity of landings by UK vessels (tonnes) increased in October 2021 compared to 2019, up 5 per cent but was down 2 per cent compared to 2020. However, the value (£000’s) of landings in October 2021 increased compared to the same period in 2019 and 2020, up 2 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.

  • The cumulative landings from January to October 2021 showed a decrease of 6 per cent from the same period in 2019 but was up 16 per cent compared to 2020.

  • Landings in October 2021 consist mainly of pelagic species (around 75 per cent of landings) which typically fetch a lower price than demersal and shellfish species. This is driven by increased uptake of Mackerel – a key pelagic species – as October usually is a peak month for fishing pressure and therefore landings on this species.
