The latest England net supply of housing statistics produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government were released on Thursday 1 November 2012.

The latest statistics report on net supply of housing up to the 2011 to 2012 financial year and update those previously released on 2 November 2011.

Key points from the latest release are:

  • annual housing supply in England amounted to 134,900 net additional dwellings in 2011 to 2012, an 11% increase in net additional dwellings from 2010 to 2011. This compares with a fall of 6% between the net supply in 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011
  • the 134,900 net additions figure for 2011 to 2012 comprised 128,160 new-build homes, 5,240 additional homes resulting from conversions, 12,590 additional homes resulting from change of use, 1,100 other gains and a loss of 12,200 homes through demolitions
  • there was, in addition, a net increase of 2,400 communal establishments; this was composed of a net increase of 2,350 student halls and a net increase of 50 other communal establishments.
