Details

New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) aims to help unemployed people claiming out of work benefits who wish to start up their own business. Participants in NEA work with a business mentor to develop their business idea. Once they have started trading and left benefits, they receive a weekly allowance.

These statistics record the number of people who have started working with a business mentor and who have started receiving the allowance. The main findings are:

  • 105,240 starts with an NEA business mentor
  • 53,350 have started trading, left benefits and started receiving the weekly allowance
