Details

DWP publishes the Older Workers Statistical Information booklet to meet a government commitment to publish information on employment statistics on older people.

The booklet presents employment statistics relating to older people (aged 50 to 64 and those aged 65 and above) in the UK. It covers a range of labour market statistics, including:

  • employment
  • unemployment and inactivity
  • employment types
  • qualifications
  • industry
  • occupation

Key statistics are compared by age, gender, ethnicity and disability. The booklet also includes supplementary statistics on the impact of the recession on older workers over the last 3 reporting years.

The majority of results presented in this booklet are based on Labour Force Survey (LFS) data for the UK in quarter 2 (April to June) 2010. The LFS is a representative sample survey of 60,000 private households in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
