Statistics on freight handled at major UK sea ports for October to December 2018.

When comparing October to December 2018 with October to December 2017:

  • total freight tonnage through UK major ports increased by 6% to 121.8 million tonnes
  • inward tonnage to UK major ports increased by 10% to 79.5 million tonnes
  • outward tonnage fell by 1% to 42.3 million tonnes

  • total volume of unitised traffic through UK major ports fell by 2% to 5.5 million units
  • inward units held steady at 2.9 million units and outward units fell by 3% to 2.7 million units

When comparing the rolling year to December 2018 with December 2017:

  • total tonnage through UK major ports marginally decreased to 470.0 million tonnes
  • total volume of unitised traffic decreased 2% to 23.6 million units
