Alongside this quarterly publication we are proposing changes to the quarterly and annual port freight table structure, please see the user feedback exercise documents on this page which set out the proposed changes. Provisional quarterly statistics on freight handled at major UK sea ports.

Comparing October to December 2017 with the same period in 2016:

  • the total freight tonnage through UK major ports decreased by 1% to 115.0 million tonnes
  • the total volume of unitised traffic through UK major ports decreased 1% to 5.6 million units

Comparing the rolling year to December 2017 with the same period in 2016:

  • the total tonnage through UK major ports decreased 1% to 468.8 million tonnes
  • the total volume of unitised traffic decreased 1% to 23.8 million units

Detailed final annual statistics for 2017 will be published in summer 2018.
