Provisional estimates of road traffic, by:

Provisional estimates show motor vehicles travelled 328.3 billion vehicle miles (bvm) in Great Britain for the year ending June 2019.

When compared to the year ending June 2018:

  • all motor vehicle traffic remained broadly stable (increasing slightly by 0.3%)
  • van traffic decreased by 1.2% to 50.4 billion vehicle miles
  • lorry traffic decreased by 1.3% to 16.9 billion vehicle miles
  • car traffic increased by 0.9% to 256.3 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on motorways remained broadly stable at 68.4 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on ‘A’ roads increased by 1.2% to 149.7 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on minor roads decreased by 0.9% to 110.2 billion vehicle miles
