Provisional estimates of road traffic, by

in Great Britain for the year ending September 2024.
Provisional estimates show motor vehicles travelled 333.7 billion vehicle miles in Great Britain for the year ending September 2024. This is up 1.4% compared to the year ending September 2023. Traffic levels were 1.5% below pre-pandemic levels.
When compared to the year ending September 2023:
- car traffic increased by 1.3% to 252.9 billion vehicle miles
- van traffic increased by 2.3% to 59.0 billion vehicle miles
- lorry traffic showed little change at 17.0 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on motorways showed little change at 69.7 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on ‘A’ roads increased by 1.8% to 147.3 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on minor roads increased by 1.6% to 116.7 billion vehicle miles
