It is based on absence data at pupil level collected via the summer 2011 school census. This release provides information at local level on the rates of absence (authorised, unauthorised and overall) by type of school and the proportion of absence by reason.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The overall absence rate has decreased, going from 5.92% to 5.42%
  • The authorised absence rate has decreased, going from 4.81% to 4.41%
  • The unauthorised absence rate has decreased, going from 1.12% to 1.01%.
