Statistics on the number of local bus:

in Great Britain.
For the year ending March 2020, the number of local bus passenger journeys in:
- England was 4.13 billion, a 4.3% decrease
- London decreased by 4.9%
- England outside London decreased by 3.8%
When comparing local bus passenger journeys for January to March 2020 to January to March 2019, we see:
- a 12.9% decrease in England
- London decreased by 13.5%
- England outside London decreased by 12.2%
- Scotland decreased by 13.1%
- Wales decreased by 15.7%
The local bus fares index increased by 2.5% in England between March 2019 and March 2020.
For other areas, the local bus fares index change was a:
- 0.4% increase in London
- 3.4% increase in metropolitan areas
- 4.1% increase in non-metropolitan areas
- 3.5% in Scotland
- 2.6% in Wales
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) increased by 1.5% between March 2019 and March 2020.
The period covered by this release includes time after movement restrictions due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) were announced in March. The collection of passenger data is not granular enough to distinguish numbers of passenger journeys before and after the restrictions were announced.
