Includes all the main ferry routes between Great Britain and mainland Europe, and the Channel Tunnel, and excludes routes between Great Britain and Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. It is based on information supplied by ferry operators and Eurotunnel. See the Technical Information below for further details of how the data is collected.

For the rolling annual total:

  • there were 2.44 million goods vehicles travelling from Great Britain to mainland Europe in the 4 quarters ending January to March 2013. Although this is broadly the same amount as the rolling annual total for January to March 2012, it is still 16% lower than the peak in 2007

During January to March 2013:

  • 620,000 goods vehicles travelled from Great Britain to mainland Europe.
  • powered vehicles have increased by around 2.5% compared to January to March 2012
  • the number of unaccompanied trailers has remained steady.
