18 December 2024: Correction to the Corporation Tax statistics commentary 2023
HMRC identified a minor error affecting the Corporation Tax statistics commentary 2023. In the final sentence of section 7 it was incorrectly stated that 19% of companies had zero Corporation Tax liability in 2021-22 and 18% in 2020-21. These figures should have read as 49% and 47% respectively, and the commentary has now been corrected. The most recent version of the publication, for 2024, is not affected by this issue, nor are the figures in the data tables that were published alongside the 2023 commentary.

An updated release of the 2024 Annual Savings Statistics will be published on 4 December 2024. This release will contain corrected statistics for Lifetime ISA subscriptions.

HMRC has identified an issue with the Lifetime ISA (LISA) subscription data submitted by a small number of providers. We are currently checking the data with these providers and we recommend that for now, users do not use the current statistics on LISAs (amounts subscribed, number of accounts or average subscriptions) found in the 2024 Annual Savings Statistics. The other subscription statistics and the other tables of the Annual Savings Statistics are not affected. Once we have a greater understanding of this issue, we will pre-announce the timeline for correcting the figures if needed.

7 August 2024: Corrections to the Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics
HMRC has identified an error impacting Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics. This affects UK exports from January 2020 to October 2023, and UK imports from February 2020 to March 2023.
Due to incorrect reporting, certain export and import gas pipeline declarations were incorrectly published. The issue was found during regular quality assurance checks of trade data.
These corrections revise the monthly UK export trade figures upwards by between 0.0% and 0.2% for months in 2020, by between 0.0% and 1.9% for months in 2021, by between 0.7% and 4.6% for months in 2022, and by between 0.2% and 1.8% for months in 2023.
These corrections revise the monthly UK import trade figures upwards by less than 0.1% for months in 2020, by between 0.0% and 0.7% for months in 2021, and by less than 0.1% for months in 2022 and 2023.
These changes will be incorporated into the August 2024 statistics, released on Thursday 11 October 2024.
Revisions to other related statistics will be made in future releases retrospectively.

March
14 March 2024: Child and Working Tax Credits error and fraud statistics
We are ceasing the Child and Working Tax Credits error and fraud statistics publication due to the underlying random enquiry programme stopping as tax credits will close in 2024 and the remaining population will move to Universal Credit. We have developed a new projection methodology for tax years 2022 to 2023, 2023 to 2024, and 2024 to 2025. The central estimate of tax credits error and fraud for these years will be published in HMRC’s Annual Report and Accounts.
We will be publishing the final estimate of error and fraud in tax year 2021 to 2022 on 11 April 2024.
HMRC identified a minor historical error in the statistics covering tax year 2020 to 2021 published on 23 June 2022 affecting the final central estimate (£ million) of tax credits error and fraud and number of awards in error and fraud, as a result of incorrect weighting. We will publish an amendment to the tax year 2020 to 2021 publication on 11 April 2024 alongside the final estimate for tax year 2021 to 2022.
More information on revisions to Official Statistics can be found in the HMRC policy on revisions to official statistics.

1 February 2024: UK trade in goods diversification 2018 to 2022
On 19 March 2024, HMRC is publishing a statistical publication analysing the counts of commodity codes across two different data sources: Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics (OTS) and Customs declaration data from 2018 to 2022.
This publication complements other releases from ONS and HMRC. It provides further insights to the trade data collection changes within the OTS pre and post EU Exit.
The analysis looks at how changes in different data collection methods affect the count of commodity codes at 8-digit level, within the published trade data from 2018 to 2022.

29 January 2024: Asymmetry analysis for trade in goods statistics between the UK and the USA, 2017 to 2022
On 1 March 2024, HMRC is publishing a statistical publication looking at differences in how the UK and the USA record and report goods traded between them, from 2017 to 2022.
HMRC and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) worked with the United States Census Bureau (Census) to conduct this asymmetry analysis.
This report uses data obtained from the United Nations International Trade Statistics Database. The asymmetries analysis focuses on the total trade in goods and the trade in vehicles, which is within Chapter 87 of the Harmonised System (HS) for classifying goods.

29 January 2024: HMRC tax receipts and National Insurance contributions for the UK
HMRC have identified a potential concern with 2022 to 2023 and 2023 to 2024 receipts data affecting Pay As You Earn (PAYE). We are investigating further and expect this may require revisions to affected receipts in our publication on 21 February 2024. This is in line with our published revisions policy of releasing revised statistics if additional information becomes available.
