Publication type: statistical first release

Region: England

Release date: 26 May 2010

Coverage status: provisional

Publication status: published

This annual SFR provides the first release of provisional January 2010 school workforce data. It includes standard tables for January 2000 to 2010 on:

  • teacher numbers

  • support staff numbers

  • teacher vacancies

  • pupil to teacher ratios

  • pupil to adult ratios

  • teacher ethnicity

  • teacher sickness absence

Publication was later this year due to the need to combine data from those local authorities using the existing 618g survey with those providing information with the school workforce census. 83 of the 152 local authorities provided full information in this new format.

Additional local authority level tables were added on 29 September 2010 covering teacher, teaching assistant and other support staff numbers, pupil to teacher and pupil to adult ratios, and teacher ethnicity. Local authority tables covering teacher vacancies and teacher sickness absence are not included for data quality reasons (see paragraphs 10 to 18 in the Notes to Editors section of the statistical first release).

Additional tables were added 21 October 2010 covering teacher flows, teachers in service, teachers’ pay, retirements and out-of-service teachers aged under 60.
