Revised 2016/2017 sickness absence figures
We have revised and reissued the 2016/2017 Sickness Absence in the Northern Ireland Civil Service publication originally released on 20 September 2017. This revised version supersedes the original publication.
The revised publication corrects an error in the initial publication whereby a group of staff who are not part of NI Civil Service were accidentally included in the statistics.
The removal of this group increased the average days lost in 2016/17 from 12.441 to 12.454 days. When rounded to one decimal place, this raised the headline figure of 12.4 days lost on average to 12.5 days. Conversely, estimated lost production fell from £32.7 million to £32.6 million. At the Departmental level, the average days lost in the Department of Finance (Northern Ireland) increased from 9.9 days (9.944) to 10.0 days (9.986).
It should be noted, however, that the nature of the error means that there are some minor changes in the tables and figures contained throughout the revised report compared to the original release.
