Tri-Service Families Continuous Attitude Survey: 2024 Summary

This statistical release provides results from the Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FamCAS) 2024, along with results from previous years. Statistics from FamCAS are used by both internal Ministry of Defence (MOD) teams and external bodies to inform the development of policy and measure the impact of decisions affecting personnel, including major programmes such as the Armed Forces Families Strategy and the Armed Forces Covenant.
Key Points and Trends
47% | Percentage of families satisfied with their quality of life as a Service family in 2024. |
This has fallen for the second year in a row, down from 54% in 2022. |
27% | Percentage of Officer spouses who agree their family benefits from being a service family in 2024 |
A decrease from the 35% reported in 2023. The percentage of Officer spouses who disagree their family benefits from being a service family has increased from 34% in 2023 to 43% this year. Officer spouses are feeling less positive about several aspects of Service family life this year. |
26% | Percentage of families living in Service Family Accommodation/Substitute Service Family Accommodation satisfied with the responses to requests for maintenance/repair work in 2024. |
Increased from 16% in 2023 but remains well below the 38% reported in 2021 and all levels prior to this. |
49% | Percentage of families stating they do not currently receive any communications from the Services in 2024. |
Over half of Service families (54%) disagree that policies aimed at them are communicated effectively whilst 12% agree. |
81% | Percentage of Service spouses employed in 2024. |
Although unchanged since 2022, this is above all levels reported prior to 2020. |
