Details

Information on motor vehicles that were licensed on 31 December 2014 (the end of quarter 4), or which were registered for the first time during quarter 4 (October to December) 2014.

The statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in the United Kingdom (Great Britain prior to July 2014).

At the end of December 2014:

  • there were 35.6 million vehicles licensed for use on the roads in Great Britain. This is a 1.7% increase on quarter 4 2013 and the largest fourth quarter year on year increase since 2007

  • 2.97 million vehicles were registered for the first time in Great Britain in quarter 2014.This was 9% up on 2013, but still 8% lower than in the peak year of 2003

From October to December 2014, a total of 6,121 new ultra-low emission vehicles were registered for the first time (in the UK), up 422% from the same period in 2013. This took the total registered in 2014 to 15,869, 264% up on the previous year.

Average CO2 emissions from new cars in quarter 4 2014 was 123 g/km. This fell by 3.4% compared to new cars in quarter 4 2013
