Statistics on motor vehicles that were registered for the first time during April to June 2017.

These statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in the United Kingdom (Great Britain prior to July 2014).

During April to June 2017 there were:

  • 573,000 cars were registered for the first time, of which:
    • 52.2% of newly registered cars were petrol
    • 43.4% were diesel
    • 4.4% were hybrid vehicles (of which 2% were plug-in hybrids)
  • 11,400 Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs) registered for the first time, the highest figure ever recorded

At the end of June 2017, there were 37.8 million vehicles registered for use on the road in Great Britain.
