Motor vehicles in Great Britain that were licensed on the 30 June 2014 (the end of quarter 2), or which were registered for the first time during quarter 2 (April to June) 2014.
The statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in Great Britain.
During April to June 2014:
- there were 35.8 million vehicles licensed for use on the roads in Great Britain. This is a 2.2% increase on April to June 2013, the biggest year-on-year increase since April to June 2005
- 723,000 vehicles were registered for the first time in Great Britain. This was 8% up on the same quarter of 2013, and for the first time marginally higher than the pre-recession 2008 figure. However, it was still 11% lower than in the peak April to June of 2003
- a total of 2,746 new ultra-low emission vehicles were registered for the first time (in the UK), up 141% from the same period in 2013
- average CO2 emissions from new cars in April to June 2014 was 126 g/km. This fell by 2.3% compared to new cars in April to June 2013
