Vehicle MOT non-compliance statistics 2007 and 2008
Estimates of MOT non-compliance, derived from a sample of vehicles observed being driven on British roads in an annual roadside survey.

Department for Transport is assisted by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency in establishing which observed vehicles are, and are not, MOT compliant.
The overall rates:
- non-compliant vehicles in Great Britain traffic was estimated to be 2.9% in 2008, this is a fall from the 2007 figure of 3.1%
- of the different vehicle tax classes, non-compliance rates in Great Britain traffic were estimated to be highest amongst motorcycles (8.5% in 2007 and 4.7% in 2008)
- non-compliant vehicles in stock in Great Britain was estimated to be 2.8% in 2008, equivalent to approximately 677,000 vehicles, representing a drop from the estimated 3.2% in 2007, which is equivalent to approximately 857,000 vehicles
- vehicles in Great Britain traffic which were both licensed and MOT compliant was 96.1% in 2007, increasing to 96.7% in 2008
