Details

Department for Transport is assisted by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency in establishing which observed vehicles are, and are not, MOT compliant.

The overall rates:

  • non-compliant vehicles in Great Britain traffic was estimated to be 2.9% in 2008, this is a fall from the 2007 figure of 3.1%
  • of the different vehicle tax classes, non-compliance rates in Great Britain traffic were estimated to be highest amongst motorcycles (8.5% in 2007 and 4.7% in 2008)
  • non-compliant vehicles in stock in Great Britain was estimated to be 2.8% in 2008, equivalent to approximately 677,000 vehicles, representing a drop from the estimated 3.2% in 2007, which is equivalent to approximately 857,000 vehicles
  • vehicles in Great Britain traffic which were both licensed and MOT compliant was 96.1% in 2007, increasing to 96.7% in 2008
