Sue Goss describes an immersive learning experience The Civil Service Leadership Academy immersive learning series is sponsored by Clare Moriarty, Permanent Secretary at Defra. The series develops more effective leadership practice through intensive workshops. Participants are fully immersed in responding to a recent, relevant, real-life situation in which there is no right answer, and hear honest accounts of the human experience of leading in these moments.

The Civil Service Leadership Academy immersive learning series is sponsored by Clare Moriarty, Permanent Secretary at Defra. The series develops more effective leadership practice through participation in intensive workshops. Participants are fully immersed in responding to a recent, relevant, real-life situation in which there is no right answer, and hear honest accounts of the human experience of leading in these moments.

Each event focuses on a specific capability, and participants will come away with priorities that they can action in the workplace, a support network of like-minded people, and further opportunities to reflect and build upon the learning. Each event has been co-developed by Civil Service leaders alongside experts in learning and leadership development, and this format creates a unique opportunity for learning:

Listening and talking to people who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership through complex and challenging situations - in a human, honest, authentic way, yet structured around a clear case study - was mind-opening, inspiring and surely the most successful way to teach leadership.
